When the winter brings a chill over the great outdoors, there’s no need to huddle up inside on the couch for too long. It may be nice for a few days, but it’s natural to start feeling restless and ready to get out and move again. There are plenty of indoor activities in Northern Virginia to keep you active and busy until it’s time for baseball and frisbee again.

The Five Best Indoor Activities in Northern Virginia

From Northern Virginia escape rooms that test your mental sharpness to trampolines that will bounce your winter blues away, here are five indoor activities in Northern Virginia (in no particular order) to keep you moving.

Autobahn Speedway Axe Throwing

Got some pent-up stress that needs to be released? Throw an axe around! Autobahn Speedway in Dulles, VA offers an athletic experience like no other. Its team of Axe Coaches trains each participant and keeps a close eye on the fun to ensure that everyone is safe while playing. Coaches can also keep games organized and teach a few trick throws if you’re getting the hang of things easily.

Autobahn Speedway offers public axe throwing sessions, where groups of two or more can walk right or schedule a time slot in advance to get started throwing axes. The facility also accommodates private groups of between six and 64 people for two hour sessions in exclusive throwing lanes. Groups who choose to book the entire facility also have access to the speedway’s racing track.

The Board Room

Private parties from five people to 200 can book space at The Board Room for parties, corporate events, sports groups, and more. Party spaces include the bar’s Tap room, which has its own dedicated bar and brewing tanks, and the Chairman’s Lounge, an elegant space for smaller groups. A secret bookcase door in that room opens up into Ms. Peacock’s, an art deco inspired bar that specializes in champagne. The entire Board Room facility can be rented out for private events.

Room Escape Fairfax

Escape rooms are quickly becoming one of the most frequented indoor activities in Northern Virginia. Room Escape Fairfax is the largest escape room venue on the east coast. Participants have just one hour to solve the puzzles inside their locked room and find the key that will release them. The escape rooms are designed to be primarily mental challenges, making them a good indoor activity for all ages.

Rooms can accommodate between two and 10 people, depending on the theme of each one. If your group isn’t large enough to fill a room, remaining spots may be sold to other participants. Larger groups can rent two rooms at the same time to compete against the clock and each other for some extra intensity. Groups can also book private parties, which include the use of the VIP suite for pizza and refreshments before or after the game.
